Design Practice Location:
The designer fully respected the history of this special site, and was careful to restore the overall structure and exterior in accordance with its original appearance. Originally a place where soldiers were billeted, the building is now used for many leisure activities, including dining and socialising. Rustic and industrial elements were used in the restoration, many of which were taken from original materials found on site. Beams, brick walls and retro tiles all serve to bring the elegance of the original architecture back to life and also highlight the simplicity of this retro space. Retro items such as phonographs create diversity and interest around the space and hint at its new purpose. The project saw this fascinating space being transformed from a ruin into a vibrant building that pays homage to his history.
