Design Practice Location:
The brief was to create a casual bar offering that would appeal to its immediate clientele staying within the IBIS hotel as well as non-guests. It had to embrace the narrative of a dishevelled Cuban interior, evoking the language and sentiments of this vibrant culture and its people without becoming faux and thematic. It had to celebrate all that is Cuban through its cuisine, music, drinks and, ultimately, its interiors. All materials have been reclaimed or architecturally salvaged. Acoustic ceiling tiles that cover 80% of the surface finishing are intelligently disguised and enhanced through the application of a tea-washed application to create an authentic worn-out look. The space is approachable, versatile, visually dynamic and colourful yet possesses a charming feel thanks to the use of intelligent interior styling, a decorative array of lighting and furniture all possessing an inherent Cuban celebration.
