Design Practice Location:
The brief was to expand the existing living area while a new extension would also add functionality. The main living room of the existing building was to be kept for daily family activities and a new guest space designed. All the new buildings are made of timber and constructed with special joinery techniques without using screws and bolts. Following the conventional log house style around the property, separate building ‘blocks’ were designed to emphasise the cosy ‘chalet’ feeling throughout the property. Each of these single-function ‘blocks’ is connected to one another by a hallway. The new main space houses the main living room and a guest area. In contrast to a traditional log house, it enjoys a very high ceiling – almost 10 metres high – and is luxuriously decorated. To add to the luxe feeling, 100 metres of velvet curtains were used on the windows.
