Design Practice Location:
As the architects and interiors designers of NBCS’ new learning space, WMK reinvented the traditional school. The design is a sequence of fluid indoor/outdoor spaces, from fully enclosed, to semi-enclosed, and covered spaces – melding interiors and architecture together seamlessly. Students learn in flexible pavilion buildings and outdoor interior spaces that sit beneath a spectacular 3,000-square-metre canopy which generates energy, harvests rainwater, and cools the spaces below. The new facility accommodates interactive learning spaces, support facilities, and administration, while a canteen with treehouse-style seating forms the centrepiece and meeting place. A stage and large screens complete the active, adaptable heart of the school.
