Design Practice Location:
Bamboo Pavilion is a tea room in Honey Lake, Shenzhen; it’s set in a secluded spot hidden by a peaceful and verdant bamboo grove despite being located in the bustling city. Its name – Bamboo Pavilion – is inspired by the writings of the great scholar Zhu Xi, who in his work and philosophy expressed his feeling of being free of problems while gazing on some bamboo in an attempt to better understand its nature. Inspired by this, the space manages to evoke in its users this same feeling of stillness and detachment from daily woes experienced by those ancient scholars. In creating this space, the designer wished to allow visitors the opportunity to appreciate the true meaning of life and leave any cares behind while relaxing both body and mind in a truly peaceful spot.
