The ancient and fabled Peach Blossom Land, imagined by the great Chinese poet Tao Yuanming, is a hidden utopia that still intrigues and draws scholars. The land conjures up beautiful images of nature, of petal-strewn paths, neat rows of houses and criss-crossed pathways. Now, Nanjing has Mandarin Palace – akin to the ancient Peach Blossom Land. Taking a leaf from the concept of living a ‘poetic lifestyle’, the building is mysterious and beautiful, a place in which you long to dwell as it delivers the perfect combination of humanity and nature. The unique natural landscape combines with traditional oriental elements such as peach blossom, pebbles and grid patterns that are described in the tale of the Peach Blossom Spring. By working with respect for local culture and traditions, the designer has created an inviting artistic concept where residents feel relaxed and transported to a different, more magical world.
