A Contemporary Approach To Chic

The client wanted a family home that is young yet classical and that reflects the art nouveau architecture of this historical building in the heart of Cairo. The designer’s aim was to create a dialogue between modern and traditional design while maintaining an intimate feel. The French-inspired windows that capture the natural light, coupled with bespoke furniture, showcases a playful combination of old-world elements alongside modern pieces. The designer adds dimension to the space by coupling a serene colour scheme with bolder accent choices. Unexpected contemporary elements such as the lighting harmoniously fit alongside the cladded lacquered wooden paneling. The apartment throughout is adorned with a carefully curated art collection of Egyptian artists that reflects how past and present coexist. This design was achieved by combining different period narratives and allowing the unexpected to be born.
