Design Practice Location:
The design inspiration for this project is taken from the architectural style of a roof in a Confucian Temple in Qufu. With five ridges and four slopes, plus an interweaving wood plug structure it is elegant and impressive. The aim for the design team was to find the balance between the traditional and the modern. The designers created a relationship between the human and the space, creating a powerful experience and a feeling of intimacy: This is a relationship between the interior and exterior; the architecture and the nature; the traditional and the modern. These links are made in order to enhance our experiences of buildings, turning them into sanctuaries. The designers wanted to abandon the appearance of set styles or labels and instead imbed traditional culture into the now. The exquisite distillation of these traditional elements creates an artistic essence with an extremely modern outlook.
