Design Practice Location:
Fairfield Residential Care Home in North Oxford had commissioned the design of a new purpose-built care home, situated in the grounds of the original home, a Victorian villa. The brief was to design a scheme that was warm and welcoming for the residents, that would appeal to visitors, especially the younger generation who would be invited to the home for activities, and that enhanced the beautiful light and airy architectural style of the new home. Since residents would be moving from the existing period home to a very modern building, the interior design needed to make that transition as reassuring as possible. The botanical theme and palette used is easy to live with, echoes the garden setting, offers scope for intergenerational activities, and connects with familiar resident pieces from the old home such as the resident made tree collage, now in the new reception.
