Design Practice Location:
The idea was to create a contemporary family home that is both relaxed for everyday family living, while being striking and functional for regular entertaining and holding the clients’ corporate events. The house is big enough to accommodate dedicated rooms, therefore rather than having a requirement to be multi-functional, each room needed to be tailored exactly to how it would be used, allowing for more creative freedom for design aesthetics within each zone. One feature of this project was to push the clients’ boundaries on contemporary design as the clients have historically opted for a more classic and traditional design. As the clients’ children have recently grown up, the worry was that the house might feel too big when it is just the two of them there, with lots of areas getting unused. With the feel of open plan living, yet still zoning off key areas for everyday living, the space feels proportionately right, which is enhanced by the flow of texture, colour & furniture layout.
