Design Practice Location:
Hirsch Bedner Associates Hong Kong redefined the concept of a five-star hotel experience, shifting the traditional notion of luxury. The objective was to connect with the neighborhood, allowing the hotel to become an energetic part of the urban fabric and distinguishing itself from other large five-star hotels. The Kaohsiung neighborhood and its dynamic port was central inspiration. Inspired by the humble local emporiums where products such as soft drinks, canned and picked food are part of everyday life for Taiwanese, beautifully designed feature walls depict the tops and bottoms of cola bottles with fun messages. The suites explore the notion of the emporium further, focusing instead on luxury watches to raise the tone of both materials and content. Dining is redefined via a cantilever table sitting atop a minibar, inspired by the needles of a timepiece.
