Design Practice Location:
Mylines is an interior renovation project for an existing building. Moving on from the conventional approach to a typical themed hotel, it redefines the stereotypical concept of a ‘love hotel’ with a new spatial experience. Located close to Hangzhou’s West Lake, it covers 9,000 square metres, of which 2,200 square metres is the hotel footprint. The design not only focuses on stimulating its guests with new experiences, but aims to create four indispensable senses: relaxation, romance, relief and passion. The 33 rooms are based on the primal human needs of ‘narcissism, exposure, sadism, fantasy and romance’. In addition to emphasising maximum comfort levels for its guests, the project magnifies the spatial quality through interior, exterior, scale, plan organisation, and sound and lighting control. These five key factors are blended to create an environment which integrates sensory experience with surrounding environment. The result is a space that encourages the users to release their natural human impulses.
