With a rising birth rate and increase in hours of early learning & childcare there is a growing demand for nursery places. The Scottish Government is committed to increasing the Early Learning and Childcare entitlement from 600 hours to 1140 hours per year by 2020. This expansion will almost double entitlement to free early learning and childcare by 2020 for all 3 and 4 year olds and eligible 2 year olds. As part of a building programme to accommodate this expansion with 10 new builds and a further phase planned, City of Edinburgh Council has carefully considered the development of its Early Years Environments, considering factors of both best early years practice and educational interior architecture & design. The environment is the 3rd teacher and these buildings place emphasis on both pedagogy and wellbeing to create beautiful natural and holistic nurturing learning environments.to support children’s learning and development.
