Design Practice Location:
The Royal Majlis was commissioned by a member of Saudi Arabia’s Royal Family for the prestigious Royal Palace in Riyadh. In a space more than 35 metres long, hidden sources of light enhance the majestic feeling and dispel any sense of emptiness in this vast room. The ceiling and carpet play an important role, with the level of detail and classical elements creating an impression while large crystal chandeliers hang from a backlit floral crown in the ceiling. The main colour, green, mirrors the Saudi Arabia flag while gold represents the connection with royalty. The owner is a passionate racehorse owner, as is evident from the prized trophy atop a pedestal as well as others displayed on shelves set into the walls.
