The Story of Gardening is the new permanent attraction inside the Newt Estate in Somerset. Kossmanndejong designed an exhibition filled with 2000 years of stories. Stories about gardens and gardening, power and ideals, faith and love, ecology, and nature. The 600m2 exhibition is an immersive experience. Each time you step through the monumental hedge you enter a new world, from an Islamic Oasis to a Chinese Rock Garden to a Minimalist Contemporary backyard. The culture of gardens is explored, from courtyards in the ancient world to vertical gardens in cities today. The experience focuses on three key elements, multimodal narrative, audio content and immersive exhibits. The exhibition uses sensory elements, VR-experiences, treasure hunts, and a truly multi-dimensional narrative. Several storylines show you that gardening is of all times – and all cultures. You will never look at your surroundings the same way.
