Design Practice Location:
The client desired an uncluttered design, keeping true to the modern architectural style of the modern family home, in scale with the surrounding space, with a working scullery, an island with seating and a sense of ‘rawness’ to the design as seen in the encompassing rural Wanaka landscape. At the end of a large open plan living and dining zone, the kitchen takes advantage of the rectangular shape as a galley format extending into a hidden working pantry beyond. The striking materials and colour palette draws the kitchen into its surroundings, emphasising the use of tone, light and texture, which grounds the sense of volume and modern, raw form in this kitchen. The resulting kitchen is a woven success of meeting the client’s needs and brief, accentuating the surrounding architecture, and reflecting the rawness of the landscape beyond.
