Design Practice Location:
The Mansions are uniquely located for enjoying a multifaceted lifestyle that can encompass all aspects of modern living. The proximity to London and Wimbledon’s high street, together with the rural setting, made for a great foundation for our design brief. 1.61 London was tasked to bridge these two worlds, taking the best aspects from both, and accentuate and marry them through interior design. The aim was to deliver London’s luxury modern living, fast pace and fashion and fuse that together with the warm, homely, remote countryside feel of the project’s position. The team called the brief ‘London’s secret garden’. London – for its luxury and locational proximity; ‘secret’ to denote the exclusive bespoke interiors; and ‘garden’ to imbue the secluded stunning setting of the former Duke of Wellington’s grounds. This was a six-month design process that involved designing 75 apartments as well as communal spaces, including a gym and cinema room.
